Judy joins the Waves – 1951

The story of Judy starts with the typical life of a well-educated under 21-year-old that has her mind set on what to become in the future as she meets an old friend that has joined the Navy recently and obviously is proud of his life changing decision. Also, not surprising has he got an enlistment booklet for U.S. Navy Career Woman with him that he gives as a departure gift to Judy.

Judy absorbs the content of the booklet and after getting very excited about the idea she signs up to the Waves with permission of her parents. What follows is a very classical nearly soap opera worthy chain of events with new friendships, intrigues, personal enemies, heroic acts and of course love...

Judy joins the Waves was a promotional giveaway comic distributed by Navy recruiters to gain popularity for the service.

The United States Naval Reserve (Women's Reserve) is better known under the acronym WAVES for Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service, was the World War II women's branch of the United States Naval Reserve. It was established in 1942. The purpose of the program was to release officers and men for sea duty and replace them with women in shore duties.
